Isn't it always true? If you have straight hair, you think that curly hair must be so much easier to style, and if you have curly hair, you probably always wished for the straight sleek look. The truth is, you can take whatever kind of hair you have and make it work for you to get a stylish and professional look.

The first step is to find the best hair salon you can, and the best professional who works there. This person has a following because they know the most about hair through lots of experience. It may cost a bit more up front to have your hair cut, but the result with be worth it. Styling your hair like a professional every day depends on a good basic cut.

When you sit down in the chair, ask your stylist to evaluate your hair and suggest a hairstyle that will be the easiest for the type of hair you have. Keep an open mind and listen to what the stylist says, and then allow him or her to give you the cut they suggest. As long as the change isn't too drastic, if this experience does not yield the look you want for your hair, you can try another stylist for your next cut in 5-10 weeks.

Secondly, pay close attention to the product the professional uses on your hair, from shampoo through conditioner to setting product all the way through to the spray. This is their business; they know what works. Make it your goal to purchase the products, or close approximations, as soon as you can so you can duplicate the results.

Finally, watch the stylist to see the techniques they use to dry, brush and set your hair. Do they use a big round brush with a metal center to conduct the heat? Or a diffuser to scrunch the hair into curls? Again, the equipment and tools they use help them get the design they visualize. When you get home, it will take some practice, but if you do what you watched them do, you will gradually develop the ability to style your hair like a professional.
