A psychiatrist named Judith Guggenheim identified a phenomena she coined as After Death Communication (ADC) which occurred with many people after a loved one died. She has categorized these experiences as a relationship to the senses - sight, sound, smell, taste, touch (both tactile and emotions). Even the most material thinking individual can experience these ADC connections. Her book is called Conversations with Heaven.

Then there are psychic/mediums who have honed their abilities of communication with spirit to bring forward ADC connections. The psychic abilities present themselves to everyone on the 5 senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch - both tactile and emotions) and taking 2 more important aspects of our human being - intuition (from the gut) and I know (comes from the heart - it neither sees nor hears it just knows) on to the personal, sensitive level of our psychic. We then attune to spirit realms from our own spirit energies.

Psychic/mediumship is about the senses to be sure, but it is taking them to another level within our physical being - the psychic. We are body, mind, spirit vibrating in the human complex.

We are gross material vibration in the body which is temporal and ceases existence at death and returns to the dirt - dust to dust, ashes to ashes. Within and affecting this body is the spirit vibration. This is finer and continues to exist after death of the body. It goes on to a spirit realm with all its memories (in mind) in tact for future growth.

As there is a part of us that continues to exist, it would seem rational to assume it can continue to communicate and interact with those they loved and left. Love is the key to the universe. Communication is a part of our love.

Life is progressive here on earth - we learn in school from kindergarten to university. All is progressive in our knowledge and understanding. Why would this cease with the death of the body? Our minds are still available to continue our journey of growth and understanding through many spheres of spirituality in the realms beyond earth life.

I came back to this article because my best friend and lover died on November 15, 2008. He was so special to me and his presence is felt and acknowledged even when his body is gone.

He was with us all as we planned and did his memorial service. We did not have a funeral - we chose to celebrate his life and asked for everyone's memories to lock in our hearts for when we miss him so much.

I know communication exists on such a personal level now and always.
