The world is full of heroes and villains it is full of men of courage and men of cowardice. Those who do great things that have significant, salutary impact on the lives of a large number of people are hoisted on the shoulder like a flag on a totem pole. They are held up as a symbol of pride, a symbol of accomplishment, an example worthy of emulation. But heroism doesn't come easy.
Heroism is the by-product of commitment, commitment to a goal, a cause, an idea, and an ideal that is accepted by those who celebrate the hero as worth. But sometimes the true pigeonhole within which to place an aspirant to the hero's throne is not quite clear. Sometimes it is. But where the criteria for heroism are unclear or doubtful, or the acts of heroism are of dubious utility, one man's hero may in fact be another man's villain. In such cases the boundary between heroism and villainy is thin and the hero may be regarded as a function of deeds, it also relates to time and space.
Joseph Raymond Mc Cathy, United States Senator in the 50's rose to prominence by accusing highly place his officials of being communists at a time when it was an insult for a citizen of America, America being a great capitalist machine, to be regarded as a communist. This was the age of the flowering of Mc McCarthyism. In like manner, a soviet citizen would be committing heresy and would be treated as a villain should he conduct himself in such a manner as to be regarded as a capitalist apostle. But Mc Cathy was only a temporary hero. His influence warned after 1954 when the United States Senator stripped him of his mask and sentenced him into political oblivion.
Ralph Nader, the United States consumer advocate and activist, is certainly consumers darling. In 1965 he wrote a book titled unsafe at speed, which influenced congress to bring auto design under federal control. His centre for the study of responsive law established in 1969 is a thorn in the flesh of many government regulatory agencies. Nadar organizes and lobbies and threatens action on vision fronts. To the consumers who bone-folk hero. Among manufacturers, who are at the receiving and of his salvos, he is less than a hero, maybe at best plain busy body as at worst a rabble-row-using villain. But hero or villain, the candidate's actions must have the capacity for capturing the consciousness of the people.
Adolph Hitler, the German dictator, megalomaniac and founder of the Nazi State will for ever be remembered for his virulent anti-Semitism
