When it binds to CB1 it triggers a reverse reaction leading to decreased cravings and weight loss. Most common side effects are gastrointestinal and psychiatric. A phase 3,2 year study was recently completed.

Empatic is new drug that combines drugs already in use for other conditions. Zonisamide SR and Bupropion SR. In a phase 2, 24 week trial there was significant weight loss, 8.6% compared to 1.1% for placebo. Each targets reciprocal pathways in the hypothalamus that mediate appetite and energy use. Bupropion has been used as an antidepressant and for smoking cessation. Zonisamide is a approved for partial epilepsy.

Trodusquemine, from Ganaera Corp. is a centrally and peripherally acting appetite suppressant and it inhibits an enzyme target for treatment of diabetes and obesity. It has produced consistent weight loss in animal models.
