Testimonies: My holiday vacation in the mountains

Me and my family took a little trip to the Smokey Mountains. It was beautiful in our little cabin in the Smokey Mountain in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I was only fifteen years old when this happened. Even though I was allow to drink with the adults. We had been drinking all night long and playing cards. After everybody had gone to bed sat and talked awhile with my cousin by marriage. Then all of a sudden the Sun peaked over the mountain tops and it looked so close you cold touch it. Well, still half drunk, I decided I was going for a walk in the mountains.

I ended up swinging from tree to tree as I made my way down the mountainside. I was being led by an unknown sense, a survival instinct. I soon found myself crossing a mountain road and then soon afterwards a mountain stream. I soon found myself lost in the vast mountain forest. I was hungry, thirsty and very tired. I tried to establish my route home. I don't know if there were any bears around, but I was so sleepy I laid down on a mountain gravel road and took a nap. As the day drifted by, I was being missed by my mother and the rest of my family.

I finally woke up and I walked for what was actually hours and hours on end. I almost got arrested by the local authorities being thought to be a convict on the loose. They had me in the back seat of their car and I demanded to be set free and they turned my loose. They were trying to help, but they didn't know the area that well. Those woods were beautiful.
As you've heard before, don't try this on your own, but I'm glad I got to see the forest.I was confronted with danger, not knowing exactly what it would be. I had to keep on going searching the mountain sides for our little cabin. It was kind of comical but it could have been a catastrophe. I have learned from some very big mistakes I've made and I will never challenge what I know again. I'll be playing it safe from now on.

We spent the rest of our trip taking it easy in the cabin, ice-skating, and just having fun. Gatlinburg will always hold a special memory for me and my family. You can see the little village all dressed in white if you go during the winter time. There are all kinds of shops with all kinds of things from winter wear to a ski lift. It will truly amaze you to see how they have built that resort there. They went in there and created a holiday resort right in the mountains.
