As a long time musician of thirty plus years,my experience alone should dictate the authority to answer the question of who really is the greatest rock guitarist of all time.So, here it goes;
When I started learning how to rock, I was heavily influenced by Led Zepplin so, it's gotta be Jimmy Page. Right? Actually, Shortly after that phase, I really got into Rush so maybe it should be Alex Lifeson. Now that I'm looking back on things, the great Robin Trower wasn't bad either. As a matter of fact, I bet I could write a very long list of names that would definitely fit the bill. So, my experience alone does not dictate after all. the reality is that it simply is not possible to pick just one artist to award the title of "greatest". Every one of us has an opinion as to who the best is, and that opinion is based on our earliest influences of rock music. Each individual musician in turn had influences of their own from classical music to early blues and sometimes even other competing rockers. In fact, with a little research, you may be surprised to find out that Robin Trower was a big fan of Jimi Hendrix who has artistic roots in jazz and of course, folk blues. Jimmy Page grew up in England and yet found inspiration in early American country music as well as reggae. Canadian rocker Alex Lifeson gets his elusive style from many different artist's with backgrounds to numerous to mention.Truth is, music has an impact on everyone in some form or another. You could say, "If it sounds good, it is good." Here's a thought, when we look at it that way, perhaps "you" are the greatest rock guitarist of all time! And you can quote me on that!
