You've been apart for a while now, but nobody else has come along who could replace your ex, and surprisingly, your ex is still alone, too. Would it be worth another try? You do miss one another, that's obvious. You were a good team. Maybe you should think about it.
Perhaps you've both reached higher levels of maturity, and the timing is better now for both of you. If lack of maturity was an issue in the relationship earlier on, time and experience may have helped you both gain new perspectives on the relationship and the role it played in your life. An open, honest discussion about what went wrong and what could be fixed is the first step to getting him or her back. Don't sweep the problems under the rug - they need to be addressed in a mature, thoughtful way.
No matter what the background of the situation is, there are ways to rekindle the relationship if it is a mutual desire, and to make it work the second time around. Once the two of you decide to make another go at it, some basics should be agreed upon - an important step in getting a fresh start. Assuming the issues of the past that came between you have been examined together and some resolution reached, consider the following:
- Sincere apologies for past wrongs done by either party should be made as soon as possible.
- Neither person should resort to bringing up issues from the past once the
relationship has been repaired.
- Kindness, integrity, and maturity with common sense will be the foundations for your relationship this time around.
- If you are going to be back together again, it will be because you both really want to be together. The desire to be together must be mutual.
Once these points are covered, there are obvious ways to go about getting that relationship to stabilize. Communication has to be a way of life for both of you! In thoughts, words, or deeds, you can re-establish your relationship by becoming more interested in the everyday experiences of your partner. Make time for one another to discuss what's happening. Turn off the TV and forget about online gaming for a bit. This relationship is more important.
Laugh, play, and enjoy life together. Finding humor and having a sense of humor is going to go a long way toward getting that person back into your life on a permanent basis. Be considerate of his or her needs. Share experiences together. Be sympathetic to your partner's problems. Caring about one another is probably one of the things you've both missed the most. Be your partner's best friend.
It is often not only desirable, but wise to resume a relationship that has broken off in the past for minor reasons. Now that the timing seems right for another chance at it, make sure you both do your best to make this the most meaningful relationship of your life.
