Bed-and-breakfast reviews: The Mill House Inn, East Hampton, New York

The Mill House Inn, in East Hampton, New York is a wonderful place to spend the weekend, better make that a three-day weekend as this Inn has a three-day minimum stay policy.

When you arrive at 31 North Main Street, you will be greeted by a three-story picture perfect bed and breakfast complete with a white picket fence and gate, a meticulously manicured lawn and flower gardens.

Once you step out of your car, you can take in the rest of your surroundings
Across the street is a pond and a windmill and next door is a very old cemetery. Both sides of the street have very nice residential homes and Elm trees shade the sidewalk.

Once inside the inn you will be greeted by one of the owners, while you're checking in your bags are brought to your room. The innkeeper will then give you a tour of the downstairs, priding themselves on the large homey style living room complete with a couch, love seat, recliners, end stands, coffee tables and a large assortment of flower arrangements. A buffet table is set out with coffee and hot water for tea or hot chocolate and a nice variety of fresh baked cookies, which are available 24/7.

I stayed at the Mill House in early November of 2005. The Inn has 10 themed rooms and suites, Prices start at $225 a night and go up to $595 a night. We chose "The Rose Room" it is what they call there three star room, at $325 a night. Just as the name implies it was decorated in pink and mauve colors, I found it to be very soothing. The room had a queen size bed, fireplace, love seat, TV, DVD player. It over looked the garden and street, of course being fall the leaves were changing and it was a beautiful view. The bed was comfortable and the plush comforter felt like silk on my skin.

They are famous for their breakfast, which of course is included in the price. The potions are monstrous and very hearty, steak and eggs and all the trimmings is a typical breakfast served with coffee, juice and fresh fruit.

Stepping out of the Inn, the backyard hosts a sitting area with Adirondack chairs and breath taking views.

Heading to town, walking at a leisurely pace will take you about 10 minutes. The town is quaint a looks like a Norman Rockwell piece of art. Shops, boutiques, several antique stores, restaurants and cafs make for a nice relaxing afternoon of shopping.

I use to think New England was the best place visit in the late fall but I would prefer Mill House Inn and the beautiful little town of East Hampton now.
