Why you should consider your state schools

There are many ways a student can benefit from selecting a state college as the location of their secondary education. State schools offer variety, diversity, affordability, and convenience without sacrificing educational excellence. Consider the following factors and judge for yourself, they just may convince you that a state run college is a viable option for your future.

VARIETY

Most state universities can offer a wide range of majors and innumerable choices of classes because they have bigger facilities, budgets, and a larger staff than private institutions. Going to a state college is a great choice for the student who hasn't quite tapped into what degree they want to pursue. A student can sample many different fields of study until they find one they like to specialize in. State universities can offer a larger selection of extra-curricular activities as well. There are bound to be school teams for all major sports and club teams for lesser known sports. State schools have clubs, fraternities and sororities, and honor societies for just about any interest.

DIVERSITY

At a state school you will meet people from all walks. You'll see people you knew from your own high school or neighborhood and people from all around the country and world. Because of this assortment of backgrounds, state schools are places of great diversity. You'll probably never be in an environment with such a spectrum of ethnic, religious, and political difference at any other point in your life. State colleges can offer you many ways to experience cultures and viewpoints other than your own. This diversity can add much to your college experience and serve to give you a more balanced viewpoint and make you a more well rounded individual.

AFFORDABILITY

State schools are cheaper than private schools and can offer countless options for financial aid especially if you are a resident of the state where you want to attend college. Tuition is much, much less for instate students. You might also be able to save money by going to a state school near your house. This way you won't have the cost of housing and living on your own to juggle. The dorm experience is highly over rated. If you've ever been to camp, you know what dorm living is like. Spare yourself the drama and live at home for as long as possible. If you have to move to be closer to the school you want to go to in your state it is likely that you know friends attending the same college and can rent
