Becoming a Christian is an awesome journey. Often when a person hears the word of God, their faith is ignited and the heart begins to convict them of their sin. In short, a person has come to the realization in their own heart, that something significant is missing in their life. Through this affirmation we realize our powerlessness without God. It doesn't matter who you are or what your status here on earth is. You could be rich or poor, successful or unsuccessful, but the mere fact remains, that we all need God. We were created for his purpose and nothing or no one in this world but God is going to completely fulfill us. God gives us a choice for our eternity rather it be eternal life through Jesus who became the Savior for sinners or eternal death because of our continued state of sin and disbelief.
It is important to also understand that becoming a Christian is not a one step process as many believe, but a life-long process. Romans 10:9 states, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." That confession is the beginning of the process, but by all means, not the only step. Moving forward in Romans 10:10 it states, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Believing which eventually results in us submitting to righteousness, and the confession made because of this belief, resulting in salvation. Salvation simply means spiritual deliverance from sin. So here is the beginning of the process.
As you enter into this awesome journey you begin to learn who Jesus is and why God sent him to die for our sins. John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life."
God wants us to have eternal life, wishing none to perish. So the journey into Christianity is both rewarding and fulfilling. As you go through, what I like to call the "metamorphosis," where God begins to change you; giving you a new heart and spirit, all while defining and redeeming your life from that incomplete and unfulfilled state. You will begin to experience internal love, joy and peace even while in this secular world of uncertainty, but being certain of this one thing, that the world's ways and goods never allowed you to possess this type of internal freedom.
Lastly but not least, to continue your growth in faith, knowledge
