Love is in the air. You avoided the big chain hotel and opted for the ambiance of this small, cozy Bed and Breakfast - the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. With a little careful planning and a generous sampling of the right props, your romantic encounter will bring out the best in both of you.
Flowers are a must. Call ahead and arrange to have them delivered to the room to avoid having to haul them in from the car, or search for a vase and a place to fill it. Add a small bag of fresh rose petals to strew on the bed or on your beloved.
An amenable beverage can be impressive as well as relaxing. Once again, you might enlist the proprietor to set up an ice bucket with a nice bottle of champagne or your favorite wine. Whether you bring it yourself, or arrange to have it set up, be sure to have crystal stemware available. Several bottles of good spring or European sparkling water should also be on hand.
Candles provide the perfect light for romance but do require careful use. Be sure to place them where they are not a fire hazard or where they could accidentally get knocked over should you become distracted. Scented candles are nice but can be overpowering or conflict with other smells. Bring no more than one.
Spectacular nightclothes are a necessity regardless of how long they stay on. Women should avoid the blatant look in favor of the seductively innocent. Men should consider a pair of silk pajama bottoms and maybe a matching robe.
Splurge on some personal products. A high quality bubble bath, a soothing massage oil or cream, or some hard-milled French soap can help you both relax.
The technology touch must be gentle. Bring some mood music or some hopelessly romantic movies with your portable DVD player but don't let these be too distracting. These must set the scene, not steal it.
Delicate and delicious snacks provide an opportunity for feeding each other and also allow you to postpone meals and stay in the room longer. Opt for a few truffles over a box of chocolates. You can create a sensuous memories nibbling on ripe grapes from a silver bowl. A small plate of good cheeses with fancy crackers will provide real sustenance and an excuse not to go to breakfast.
For a touch of class, be sure that everything you bring is packed neatly into an attractive bag or carrying case, and replace your gear bag with something glamorous if it looks too well traveled.
Most important of all, bring your good nature. As always when traveling, be prepared for the unexpected, the little glitches that can send thing awry, and be determined to make the best of them and have a great time.
