When you have a great idea for a book, get started right at the beginning. Play around with ideas for your Title. It should be appealing to your reader's eyes. Refer back to your title and your idea often.
Jot notes are an ideal way to keep you on track. They go along way in alleviating stress, the dreaded "writer's block" and are a quick referral for the different areas that make up the body of your book. Make jot notes for the following points of your book:
- Who are your characters?
- Fiction or non-fiction? (Comedy, suspense,thriller, romance, etc.)
- The body of your story
- What is the conclusion/plot?
You can add more jot notes under each of these areas to expand on the content.
It's important to use your own flow of writing, and not attempt anyone else's style. Be yourself and let your own writing style emerge freely. Your readers will get to know your style and look for more of your books in the future!
Fine-tune your jot notes until you are ready to dive in and start writing your book. They truly do keep you on track. Preparing for your book in this way will keep you not only help with your organization, but add to the exciting experience of writing.
Lastly, be sure to keep your notepad on your nightstand. If you're excited about your book, you're going to come up with even more ideas in your sleep!
