Ways to keep your bedroom smelling fresh

There are many things you can do to keep your room smelling fresh and clean. The truth is, the quality of your room follows you through the day. If your room has developed a musty odor it is going to affect your clothing and your bedding. It can also affect your quality of sleep and general health. You spend one-third of you life in the bedroom so it is important to make it one of the healthiest areas of your house.

Initial Cleaning

Buying products such as air fresheners, candles, and sprays will not effectively enhance the natural smell of your room if it is not clean. By using these products before you have rid the bedroom of dust and unwanted odor-causers you are temporarily masking the true cause of your discomfort.

1) Start cleaning at the top. Remove cobwebs from the ceiling and dust from the ceiling fan. Next, clean the shelves, the tops of pictures, and any other wall ornaments. After that, move down to the table tops, the desk, and the headboard. It is a good idea to remove your bedding and cover the mattress with an old sheet or other material that can be easily washed. By cleaning from the top down you are ensuring that all the dust will end up on the floor and be vacuumed up during your last step. By ridding your room of dust you are reducing the chances of allergies, eliminating dust mites, and cleaning the surfaces of the room that are often ignored or put off for later.

2) Next, remove all the trash from your room and clean out or store any unused items. You bedroom will be easier to maintain and smell better if it is not full of extras. As you clean, locate areas where you naturally lay unwanted mail, wrappers, and other garbage. These are the areas where you will want to place a trash can. Many people make the mistake of placing trash cans where they fit and not where they will be used.

3) Finally remove and launder your sheets, blankets, throws, and clothing. This may seem like a large job but you will be thankful for it. It is not productive to initially freshen your room then fill it with items that have not been cleaned. If you do, the same musty smell will return. You may want to consider washing them with a scented detergent. Many people enjoy the smells of lilac or other floral scents in their bedding and find them relaxing and inviting.

4) Circulating the air in your room at least once a month will make the larges impact. Most modern houses are made so that they retain heat and repel cold. This means that the
