Buying gifts for anyone is annoying to me. I always want to buy something that I know the person will like instead of ending up on a yard sale table.
However, buying birthday gifts for my boyfriend is a snap. He is a simple type of guy, who likes simple things. Things he needs especially for work. His birthday was only just two weeks ago and he was tickled for the way I handled his "special day".
He is a Police Officer and is always needing new socks and tee shirts to wear with his uniform. That was the first two things on his list and actually the first two things I bought for him. He is also a movie buff and DVD collector, so I knew what movies and TV series he wanted to add to his collection so I bought those items also.
The morning of his birthday, I took off from work that day to stay at home with him. As he slept, I got up and cooked him a grand breakfast. He loves my cooking, so I made him French Toast, Eggs, Sausage, complete with a tall glass of fresh orange juice. I carried the try into the bedroom and presented breakfast in bed to him. His smile was just enough for me to know that this was a surprise. True, I do make him breakfast in bed on his days off, but he wasn't expecting this, because he thought I had to be at work.
The big surprise was that I had wrapped all his birthday presents. When he went to shower, he saw a little note on the bathroom mirror. It was clue number one to finding his gifts that I carefully hid in the house. Each place he went to look, he would find another clue to finding another gift. I stayed in the bedroom, pretending to be wrapped up in a TV show, but I only smiled as I could hear him laugh when he would find another note or gift.
After his gifts were found and opened, and after he showered, he jumped back into bed with me for some cuddle time. He is such a cuddles type of guy, and we spent the morning wrapped in each others arms as we watched a couple of episodes of Ghost Whisperer (his latest favorite TV series and mine too)
When it was time for him to get up and get ready for a long night at work, he leaned over and gave me a kiss. He told me I was the best girlfriend in the world and thanked me for the gifts I gave him. He said by me making his birthday special for him made his day. It just wasn't about the gifts, it was about the creativity I used to make his birthday fun.
