No illegal immigrant should have a roadmap to US citizenship anymore than any other immigrant to any other country. While the United States was founded on immigration and the diversity of our people, that is not to say that everyone is free to live here without following our laws that have been put in place to protect our people and the freedoms that are for all that reside with in our borders.
Having just relocated outside of the United States, I understand the complications of trying to acquire working permits and visas that are required to reside in other countries as well as our own. It can be a very costly, trying and exhausting experience that is time consuming and frustrating to say the least. However, if I want to live in another country and experience what they have to offer, then why shouldn't I follow their rules and laws? A United States citizen living outside of the country is held legally bound by the laws of other countries in which they choose to reside. The same should be held true for all immigrants to our country whether they are legal or illegal.
My son is not entitled to go to the public schools where I currently live. If I want him in school, it must be a private school that is at my own expense. Why should another country have their schools overwhelmed by immigrants like myself at the expense of their children and their children's education? It makes no sense. If the United States would only enact a similar law, I believe it would change the United States education system for the better while creating new jobs in the private sector. And if their children were not in school, that would be against the law and they would have to leave. I am quite willing to pay for my child's education if that's what it takes for me to live where I live and so should anyone coming to our country to enjoy the benefits of the United States.
We as a family are not entitled to the free health services that are provide for free to the nationals where we live. According to the law of the country where I reside my husband's employer legally has to provide only 50 percent of the costs to insure our family, while the other 50 percent of the burden lies on us. A price we are willing to pay to live where we do. The nationals do not owe me anything. And if they had to pay for my family's health care it would be a burden to them just like it is for all of us in the United States. If we could enact a similar law, then we could focus more legislation giving our own children free health care so that the Medicaid programs would not cost us so much for all of the illegal immigrants' children's health care.
The illegal immigration situation is an overwhelming problem and seems to be only getting worse with the vigilante groups escalating violence on the borders. While I do not support violence I understand that these groups are trying to protect our own. I do have sympathy for the immigrants that only want to better their lives and the lives of their children. I firmly believe our own children should come first and when our own people don't have to live below the poverty level without the benefit of a decent education, health care, and plenty to eat, then we can talk about helping others outside of our borders.
