Should wives still submit to their husbands

The Pastor had been droning on, but had lost me in the first five minutes. "Wives, submit to your husbands" Everything within me screamed; "Not again, surely these guys have something else to preach about, other than slamming us women?" These were my thoughts for the nth time. I was so sick and tired of hearing these words. After all we were well behaved, upright, decent, um, godly women sitting in the pews. None of us had openly rebelled or stood up to our husbands. Surely we should not be preached at? Why don't they preach to the men about how to treat their wives?

I could almost see the steam rising out the tops of the heads of all the women sitting in that gathering. None of us were impressed with this Pastor. His shares were dropping very fast. This was the type of preaching we were subjected to in the 1970's, almost on an every Sunday basis'. Going to fellowship was no longer a pleasure. My take on this was that surely there was more in the Scriptures beside this battered scripture; or did these guys even bother to read past that verse?

By the end of one month of hearing this sermon every way we turned, there was a whole generation of passively submissive wives who underneath the surface, were a simmering cauldron of vitriolic venom, just waiting to give vent to the rebellion that was building up inside.

No one had thought to teach us godly virtues and the joy of submission. We were expected to follow instructions. Why? Well, because you are women? NO, a hundred times NO!' And so, all you had was a breed of godly females' who were bursting to break free from this bondage that was placed on us by the men of that day.

The rebellion that was building up inside, brought with it a whole bunch of relatives, like; anger, bitterness and resentment. These in turn produced very militant, strong', know-it-all women, who, because of the festering that was going on inside, became almost impossible to teach.

The fruit of this type of preaching; was a group of women, who began to dictate and manipulate their husbands to suit their own ends. You could almost pick out the heads' in their homes. The men had abdicated the throne, and were displaced by their wives. Thus the Order of God' was violated in the home.

Women who had never been heard' before, began to be heard, and ugliness and rebellion were the order of the day. Relationships began to fall apart, and we would have ladies gatherings' where gossip and strife would be the order
