Getting sucked into a soap opera can happen to anyone. If you think you'd never get sucked into a soap opera, you may have another think coming. They can pull you in before you even know what's happening.
Soap operas are a fly-on-the-wall look into the lives of other people, allowing the viewer to experience their experiences. Real life is filled with drama. Soap operas take you away from the drama in your own life, into the drama of someone else'.
Testimonies from several soap opera fans say there was a time when they laughed at soap operas and their fans until the day they got sucked into one and became hooked. "I was on maternity leave," one soap opera fan said, "and the television was on in the living room when a soap opera came on. I couldn't help but listen as I dusted, and before I knew it, I was on the sofa, eyes glued to the set."
"The television was on the doctor's waiting room," another soap opera fan said. "I rolled my eyes when a soap opera came on, but when they called my name, I wanted to stay to see what was going to happen. That's how I got hooked."
Soap operas are continuing episodes in the lives of true to life people, making them easy for any and all to relate. The circumstances they face each day are common, real life situations.
Among the many soap opera fans are what is known as, "closet soaps". They are ashamed to admit they've been sucked into soap operas.
"The garage," a former "closet soap" said, "where I was having my brakes worked on, had a soap opera on the television. I got sucked in. I was embarrassed about it for a while and would turn the channel if anyone came in. I got tired of doing that. I'm a soap opera fan and I don't care who knows it."
Soap operas have been around for years, but the drama of today's soap operas is much more intense and can even have you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails. They should come with a risk notification: "WARNING!, soap operas can be addictive. View with caution.".
