How to style your hair like a professional

by Toya

How do professional hairstylists always make your hair look better than you can? It's difficult to create styles that look like they've been done by a pro but here are 2 ways to style straight and curly hair and a few tips on styling your own hair which can give you a salon finished look.

Styling your hair whether you're a man or woman can be difficult and take time. If you want a quick style that's not hard to do you can use different products on your hair to help you. Use gel for a spiky, wax and putty for a sleek look; mousse to add extra volume; anti frizz or shine serum to make hair more manageable; hairspray to hold the hairstyle; a curl defining spray to make curls last; and a leave in conditioner to protect your hair. You can also tie up your hair in a pony tail, plait parts of your hair, wear clips, combs and hair pieces to create different styles in minutes.

For a straight look you can add some straightening or anti frizz serum and blow dry your hair with a brush to create a sleek straight finish. All you have to do is part your hair into sections. Take a rolling brush, depending on the length and thickness of your hair; use either a small, medium or large size. Start with 1 piece at a time. Take your hair dryer in one hand and the brush in the other. Hold the brush underneath the hair and at the root and start drying. Gradually move the brush down the length of the hair piece. You can repeat this until you have a straight look and add a bit more serum if you need to. You do this with each section of your hair and then finish with a holding hairspray. You may need to wet your hair a bit as you go round in case it has already dried.

For a messy curly look, add some conditioning mousse to wet hair. Then get your hair dryer on a medium heat and start blow drying around your hair. Use you hands to help create the scrunched look by grabbing and fluffing up different parts of your hair as you go round. You can also get extra body by turning your head down and flicking your hair upside down. Do the same scrunching technique for your hair with your hands starting from the bottom of your head. Add a bit more mousse if you need to as you go round and finish with a shine and hold hairspray.
