Tips for parents: Disciplining teens

The teenage years are the most thrilling phase of every individuals life. It is in these years that one experiences the feeling of being torn between the idea that one is no longer a kid and asked to act as a grown up and at the same time one is not old enough to act as an adult. With this, problems arise. First, because of the tendency of the youngster to feel confused since he or she is stuck there in the middle. And second, because he or she is to experience a lot of different new things. It is said to be the most thrilling because it could be the phase in thier lives that will mold them to what kind of citizens will they eventulally emerge to. This phase is really a tough challenge fo parents. Dealing with their teenage children is a task that in one way or the other could really test their so called "parenting capabilities".

In disciplining teens, parents should keep in mind the aforementioned statements. With the knowledge of the complexity of a teenage personality, one can adjust and modify their ways of disciplining. We often hear teenagers mum about, "you don't understand me!". In one way this is true. Not that parents don't understand their teenage children. It is more of that teenage children feel misunderstood. Beacuse of this, parents should discipline their teenage children not like as children anymore. They are often asked to act like grown-ups, then, they should be disciplined like one as well. During this years, having a good relationship with teenage children is very crucial. Talking and having time together is the best way of disciplining your children. Setting house rules and being clear with them is another. House rules should ALWAYS be followed. NO EXCUSES. Being firm is necessary. However, in making these rules, parents should do it with their children.

It is very important to discipline the teenage children properly. One should always put to mind that they are in a very vital transition phase. In dealing with them, there are three things that should always be present; a firm hand, an understanding mind and most importantly, a caring heart.
