Tips for relieving sinus pressure

Sinus problems tend to plague many people in one form or another. For some, it's seasonal allergies. For others, it's a year round battle. No matter how severe the battle, how long it lasts, or what the cause is, there are some very simply things that can be done to help combat this annoyance.

LIQUIDS - Drinking plenty of liquids is important whenever you're feeling under the weather. It is even that much more important during a sinus issue. In between the sneezing and constant blowing of the nose, the body loses a lot more fluid then normal. It is important to make sure that you're staying as hydrated as possible.

HOT LIQUIDS - The reason why I mention this separate is because hot liquids have their own special combat strategy against sinus issues. Not only does the vapor from these hot liquids help break down what's in your sinus cavities, but the warmth helps relax the surrounding muscles, lessening any pain that you may have.

HOT PACKS - Once again, this is a strategy of attack using heat. A hot pack can easily be made by placing a damp face cloth in the microwave fro roughly 30 seconds. (Be careful! Because of the difference in microwave settings, the "hot pack" may come out hotter than expected.) Try to hot pack for at least 5 minutes three times a day. You may have to do this more often if you are hit with a sinus infection.

ANYTHING MINT - Mint tea, mint coffee, mint cocoa...if there's mint in it, it's bound to help! For years mint has been known as a natural pain killer and muscle soother. For those of us that deal with sinus issues specifically in the morning, a cup of mint tea is a great way to start the day!

MEDICATION - This is normally a last resort, especially for those of us that chronically deal with sinus issues. Many times over-the-counter medication is very effective against sinus problems. If you have a habit of having sinus issues, however, you may want to consider seeing a doctor just to make sure it's not anything more serious.

Please, remember that these are suggestions only! This is in no way a prescription for ridding yourself of sinus problems, but a simple list of tips to keep in mind.
