Poetry: A daughter's love

I hope to see myself in you,
I long to live in your smile
your laugh,
the color of your eyes.

How could I create something so amazing,
the beautiful child that you are going to be?
How can I love a person so much who
hasn't even been born yet?

I imagined you years before you were conceived.
As a young girl, I dreamed of the day I would have

a child of my own.
Of giving birth to a lovely spirit
a little girl who I could teach about life
who I could spoil.
A child I could share dreams with.
I dreamed of having my own little beauty who I
could shower with love and kisses.
An amazing combination of your father,
of me, who I could teach about the world you will
grow up in.

I read to you each night.
As you rest and grow in my womb, I count tales of Cinderella,
of Snow White,
all the favorite tales of my youth.
I hope you like them too.

I play music against my burgeoning belly.
I share my favorites and the favorites of my mom, your grandmother.
I play Garland, Sinatra,
even Alicia Keyes and Beyonce.
I'll let you make your own choices in all things.
But I hope you will like Hip Hop, just like your mom.

Will you love to dance too?
Will you twirl in the living room as soon as you can walk?
Will you long for a tutu,
beg me to let you dance on stage
long before I am ready to let you do so?

I have so many plans and wishes for you.
I want to take you shopping to the finest stores,
to introduce you to Armani, Kors, Kimora.
I want you to love fine jewelry and the most fragrant perfumes.
I want to share spa days with you
having manicures and pedicures
while sipping tea and sharing our lives.

I see so many aspects of your life so clearly in my mind.
Besides the energy of you kicking in my stomach,
I feel the butterflies of anticipation.
I want to hold your hand the first time
you ride a bike, swim in the ocean,
taste the coffee in Turkey.

I can't wait to take you Trick or Treating,
to dress you up in the costume of your choice.
Will you want to be a Prima Ballerina
or a wicked witch?
Will you like the black licorice best
or the candy corn?
I treasure these memories in my mind,
in my heart, before they have even happened.

I love my mother so much.
I admire her more than any other person I know.
She taught me many wonderful things about life.
I long to pass the same lessons onto you.
Will you feel the same about me?
Will I be your best friend, too?

My fondest memories are times shared with
