Dreams never really follow the path we want to!
As we grow up dreams become a way of our life, as a little girl i had lots of ideas of who i would be and where i would end up. Everything from the extravagant, having a career in brain surgery, to the simple ones, settling down with a nice man. It's the ones in between that I've had the problems with!
Aspiring to be a brain surgeon was maybe a bit too far out, though my dreams of being a nurse were at the forefront of my mind and i really had my eyes set being a care giver, in my uniform and squeaky shoes! But it's funny how obstacles can worm their way in and all the plans that seem so well laid out can just crash and burn.
When I started my journey down the academic route, i was prepared for the study and the work I would have to put in, but some difficult times at home, resulted in a limited amount of financial support from my parents, thus i had to earn my way through university.
to many of my friends the thought of a part time job was a source for drinking money, and shopping trips to the high street. I however, was thinking did i have enough to pay my rent, feed myself, and pay other bills. Training as a nurse isn't a completely academic course, many hours are put in at the hospital, the part of my course that I absolutely loved and had dreamed of as a girl. However, working on the wards and in the bar can only continue for so long, and therefore, my studies began to suffer, to the extent that i failed my course.
These years of my life brought many obstacles to prevent me fulfilling my dreams, however as I accepted the course of my troubles as something that has been sent to test me, and embraced them by carrying on in a health care plan, and meeting the man, quite literally, of my dreams, the obstacles of my studying years have crept up to once again stand in my way.
the financial implications of failing my course and the subsequent saving to return to college, has set aside dreams i had planned with my husband, holidays, a honey moon, the purchase of our own home.
Obstacles are sent to stand in our way and it is completely up to us, to carry on through the ups and downs. Eventually we realize, that our dreams are always there, we just need to continue reaching for them.
