for such exploitation and depiction of violence. Cannibal films struggle to make it past the censors without lengthy cuts or even outright bans, which of course only adds to such films own legend and status. The criticisms from animal activists groups have a strong claim in the rejection of these films and the rapes that frequently occur, sit well with neither female nor male viewer alike.
However, Zombie Holocaust, despite its extreme graphic violence is a well structured and intelligently crafted piece of cinema. The "Blair Witch" theme of following the story through a story, in this case tapes left behind by a missing film crew, reveals their story of cruelty and rape, asking questions about the true hidden nature of man. In the face of primary evidence, we have to ask ourselves who the true monsters really are, and how far down behind the mask of civility the savage lurks in all of us.
