Many college websites effectively guide you in how to use appropriate methods, but if you choose to search on the Internet, make sure it's current information as proper methods to cite articles on the web are frequently updated. *Proofread. Correct any obvious errors and don't solely rely on your spell check; while it's a good tool, it doesn't catch everything. Rewrite sections of your essay (if necessary) proofread, and then proofread it again. Pay careful attention to the construction of your essay. While your research and efforts poured into your writing may be top notch, there are some professors that will drop you a grade simply because of its structure, lack of citations, grammar/spelling or a lack of clarity. These are all things to keep in mind as you proofread your document.
There are a couple of other guiding principles you can use when putting your essay together. Here are some I usually follow when keeping structure in mind:
*Introduction leading into your position statement. This is key, write something interesting that will catch your reader's attention. The introduction can make or break an essay.
*Write several paragraphs which expand your research and include your own ideas.
*Analysis and solution (if applicable)
*Conclusion
Construc ting a good college essay takes work, but it is not as painful as it seems. If you stay focused on your topic and find a nice pool of research material, you'll have the hardest part of the job finished. The rest will flow into place once you get started. Keeping a clearly defined direction will guide you to writing a successful college essay.
