The old saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", is absolutely right. Unknown to me who the author of that statement is - I do know this much; they knew more then most.
Each and every individual in society has been given the ability to interpret things differently. Because of this - what one may find is beauty to them, another may not. We encompass within ourselves our own ideals, morals, and values and even our own rating system when it comes to judging others. I'm sure at one time or another in your life you've wondered how a friend of yours could date a person they were seeing - your own judging standards making it incomprehensible to you why they would find an attraction to that person. You may find a person worthy of your attention - others may question why. It's because we all process what is pleasing to our eyes or soul differently then the next person.
The word Beauty, alone, is much too generalized - it cannot and should not be used as a standard to judge one person from the next. Outward beauty can often be the result of unnatural enhancements making it a false appearance. To judge a person by outward beauty is as limited in time as the judgment of a freshly cut rose.
A beautiful person is one, who in all aspects of character, is deserving of the title. The very nature of the individual should be evaluated; how they think, how they act, how they represent and carry themselves, and how they treat others and the world around them. That is what needs to be used to judge them.
If we say a person is beautiful judging only their outward beauty, how can we judge them knowing when that beauty, due to time and age, will change? Are old people ugly because their outer appearance is not pleasing to the eyes? Hardly so.
Real beauty is to be judged by the entire person; the whole person.
When one says, "It's a beautiful day", it isn't just because the sun is shining. It's because the weather is warm, it's bright, the birds are singing, the flowers are blooming - it's not just all about the sun.
And beauty should not be all about the face.
Life is still beautiful - a day is still beautiful, even when the clouds are out. It's because there are so many different reasons the day can be wonderful - certainly not just because factor is considered.
A cloudy day can still be beautiful, because the world, and all that we get from it, is there at our disposal.
If we only see beauty with our eyes, if we only judge it by appearance, we will never see its true source, and certainly not in its entirety.
A rose is beautiful when in full bloom, withered days later. Yet, we continue to see them as the most important of all flowers to give as a representation of our love or caring; and we do so knowing that their beauty fades in time - a very short time.
However, it's the reputation and representation of what the Rose symbolizes that makes it so beautiful - even when we no longer can see that it is.
Let's not forget, when the bloom of one has captured our heart, the thorns below we've often forgotten. We've then judged a book by its cover.
Like we do a human with a pretty face.
