Why people get sucked into soap operas

Over here in England we have various soaps and if truth be known, (though I would never admit it to my friends of course), I do from time to time follow the soaps, namely Eastenders and Coronation Street. The others such as Emmerdale or Hollyoaks are okay, but the two meaty ones are Eastenders and Coronation Street or affectionately known as "Corrie".

I am always amazed that in a relatively small community, how all the girls land up with the ex boyfriends of their best mates, and how the girls who are in relatively bad paid jobs look like they have just walked off a catwalk with their immaculate nails and oh so white teeth and not forgetting their suntans.

Yes I know its only a drama (ooops sorry Soap) but does take a bit of imagining that these girls have so much spare cash when they are probably on just a minimum wage of 5.62 an hour, and I am not just picking on the girls, the guys too always look pretty trendy and half of them are not even in jobs, but spend an awful lot of time arranging stag do's for their mates, sitting in the pub every lunchtime and just hanging around in a market eying up the girls (Eastenders)

Still it keeps me amused, in the real world, I think I have been in a pub in the last month (oh its only just turned November) so not counting this month, errr once. Or am I very sad?

I think I like Eastenders the best it has to be said. I love Barbara Windsor, who just never seems to age (she must be all of 60 now). Since taking on her two nieces the soap has certainly up its popularity and now the introduction of a very handsome and sexy ex CID officer from another soap which I have been known to watch "The Bill" (oh dear I have let another cat out of the bag) I think there are going to be no end of girlfriend swapping and secret (and dangerous liaisons) in the future, just to keep me in even more over the winter months.

Thank heavens for soaps.
