I think the scariest movie I had ever seen was Rosemary's Baby. Definitely not a movie to watch if you are contemplating pregnancy, I can assure you. 1972 it was, and as I watched this movie, I could feel my son moving within. I don't think I'd ever wish to see a movie like this again.
The plot was so well written, the fear and horror a little too realistic for me, and the knowledge that you may be giving birth to Satan's child is unimaginable. Such a graphic display of utter an expectant mothers sheer horror, this is not a movie to see on your own. I've never walked home so quickly from the theater.
The Omen was another movie which had me chewing my fingers to the bone. This movie involved an angelic looking child who was actually a demon. Thus, he was the CHOSEN one. The Satanist sign was marked on the back of his head 666.Such a movie full of horror, suspense and demonic acts. This is not at all a movie to see, unless you wish to keep checking your own child's head. Very well written and indeed a movie laced with fear and suspense.
Night Of The Hunter is another horror classic.
Based on Harry Powell (Robert Mitchum) the plot shows a money hungry killer on a rampage. He marries widows and kills them for his own monetary gains. He also has another very weird motive for the killings, and thus believes that he is assisting God in ridding the world of women who arouse the carnal instincts in men.
He is sent to prison for car theft and here he shares a cell with a man on death row (Ben Harper (Peter Graves.) . He then tries everything in his power to have the guy tell him the whereabouts of ten grand he stole. Of course the other prisoner refuses and this leads him to act as a minister after he is released from prison.
He now heads to Cresap's landing to court Ben's widow Willa (Shelley Winters.) She is finally overwhelmed with his pretense of Christianity and caring, hymns and biblical quotes, and therefore marries him. Ben's children, Jon nine years of age and four year old Pearl are the only ones who know where the $10,000 is. It is actually hidden in Pearl's doll.
They had been sworn to secrecy and will not tell anyone. Sadly Willa is finally too scared to keep this secret for long and is ready to meet her fate, but the children escape and this, so does the money. They head down river with the hopeful thief/murder not far behind them. I sat glued to the screen watching this, it was so intense.
The exorcist was the most horrific movie I have ever set eyes on. If you wish for all the thrills of first class horror, graphic scenes, demonic powers, you certainly won't be disappointed. This was so well written yet so gross. Linda Blair played her role to such a believable point, that one was utterly convinced this young girl was truly processed!
This was based on the 1971 novel. The plot is a medley of three in one, beginning with an actress in Washington noticing that her 12 year old daughter is displaying some horrific changes to her behavior as well as her physical features. At the same time a young priest is beginning doubt his faith while he is attempting to come to terms with his mother's terminal illness. And while this all is occurring an elderly priest realizes now is the time to face his old enemy Satan.
If you wish to actually pee yourself with fear, these are the movies to see but don't say I never warned you. I can assure you that you will be having nightmares for ages!
