The journey you take in college is a very interesting one. It's true what everyone says, you start to figure out who you are and what are the things you really like. You might already come in with a declared major, but trust me that will probably change. You start to take courses and some of them are really interesting. So interesting that you want to keep taking classes on the same issue. This certainly happened to me, I came in to college with my major declared as Physiology and Neurobiology. I am back my sophomore year and now I am an English Major. I learned in that one semester that writing is what I want to do. I enjoy writing about absolutely anything, I love poetry, short stories, memoirs, essays, you name it.
In order to realize I really wanted to become a English major I had to do a bit of research. I went to the major fairs held in school, talked to my adviser and previous English teachers, I did everything I could think of- to make sure I was making the right decision. You have to remember to use all the resources that are available to you. Some steps I would follow are:
1. Take a variety of courses-get a feel for what you like
2. Go to any major fairs held at your school
3. It is also important to attend Career fairs- Network! and remember to bring your resume
4. Do not try to live up to anyone's expectation but your own
5. Talk to professors that teach the major you have in mind
6. Study what you love.
I'm sure if you do these things your college experience will be both and enlightening one and fun.
