Just about everyone who picked up the very first Harry Potter novel was hooked from page one - I know i was. It was like nothing I'd ever read before, and I've read a lot. But then again, it was very similar to many things I'd read or movies I'd seen. And in this sense, i should have known that Dumbledore was going to die. In fact i did know, deep down inside where all the truths lie but which we chose to ignore, that Dumbledore would die; his death was inevitable. He would fall and he would fall hard and he would fall at a time when someone dear to him, mainly Harry, needed him the most.
As i write this, the seventh and last Harry Potter novel, "The Deathly Hallows" has been out for almost 3 months now. Everyone knows how the story ends, and for those who don't i promise to try and not ruin it here, but i cannot promise i won't give something or another away. That, I'm afraid, is an inevitability given the topic. So lets proceed foreword shall we.
Most of us have seen Star Wars or The Lord Of The Rings at some point in our lives, and if you pay close attention, they too have a similar story line: One hero who has the weight of the world on his shoulders who must over come insurmountable odds in order to survive, and who each lose their mentor or guide along the way. In Star Wars, we find Luke Skywalker, who has lost his mother and father and must live with his aunt and uncle until he crosses paths with Obe Wan Kenobi, who becomes his mentor and trainer as a Jedi Knight. But in a crucial moment, before Luke's training is complete, he 'falls' at the hands of Darth Vader. We later learn that, though dead, he is not really gone forever. Luke can use 'The Force' to speak to him if he's really needed. And let us not forget poor Anakin SkyWalker, the little boy who would grow up to become a great Jedi Knight and the father of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia as well as the dark and evil Darth Vader. His mentor was Quaigon Jin, whom he lost as a mentor not because of his death, but because of Anakin's own actions and decision to follow the dark arts, which led in a final confrontation between the two and led to the creation of the Evil Darth Vader.
Next we come to The Lord Of The Rings. Here we come upon Frodo Baggins, who is made the Keeper of the "One Ring" that can rule all. With this, comes great responsibility for the ring contains a great power that causes the wearer to covet it and not want to give it up. The wearer is at the mercy of the ring
