My daughter and I were told by her school she had
a learning disability, I was shocked because I was
one of those mothers, who read to her even when she
was in my womb.
My daughter was very shy and never raised her hand
or participated in school projects. She would do the
work and nothing more.
Her teacher would always say that she was in another
world, but yet at home she was vibrant, witty, and
read to her baby brother even did math on a chalk board,
my husband and I bought. She was given tests by a
psychologist and because she was overbearing my daughter
did not do well.
They used words that made her sound like she had a disease.
When she finished primary school and went to secondary school,
the little girl that we knew started to blossom, she was
with high grades, happy, outgoing and well loved by teachers.
When she graduated she won an award for highest achievement in
English and math both with a 90 average.
She is just started college to become a Chemical Lab Technician
we could not be more proud, It hurts to label kids. They should
be allowed to grow without pressure from teachers who are not
qualified to assess they are special needs.
