There are many rumors abounding about the next Star Trek film that is to come out in December of 2008. Some of the rumors are true and some are false. Most of the rumors that are true are about Leonard Nimoy. Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role for the new Star Trek film and he will be playing Spock. Also that Zachary Quinto will be playing the young Spock. This should be an interesting movie, if they play their cards right. We do not need another film like the fifth one where William Shatner directed. Of course this movie will be number 11, so anything is possible.
Most if not all of the characters have been cast. Captain Kirk will be played by Chris Pine. Dr. McCoy will be played Karl Urban. Chekov will be played by Anton Yelchin. Uhura will be played by Zo Saldana. Simon Pegg will play Scotty and John Cho will play Sulu.
There had been rumors about what the storyline or plot would be. They have said this last time, that they are seriously considering doing a Starfleet Academy story with the young Kirk and Spock first meeting. Another rumor was that they are thinking of casting Christopher Pike and Kirk's parents. Not sure how they will do that, but I figure they know what they are doing.
We do know that J. J. Abrams will be the the director of the movie. Also that this will be a prequel, as I stated above. Also, it is stated that this will be also Kirk and Spock's first mission together. For some reason I thought the first mission for these two was the TOS episode Where No Man Has Gone Before, but I could be wrong.
J. J. Abrams, I hope will be like Manny Cato. Manny Cato revived the flagging Star Trek: Enterprise in its last season before being canceled. So, maybe J.J. Abrams can revive the Star Trek franchise with this new movie. I sure hope so. We have been far too long without a Trek movie or series. At least we have the reruns.
So I hope when this movie comes out, we will be pleasantly surprised by the plot and how it will all come to be and not disappointed by another film that didn't live up to the hype.
