Wearing fur is not immoral

Wearing fur is in no way a question of morals. It has nothing to do with morals. That question is like saying is wearing a hat immoral? In fact it is. In fact it isn't. Is wearing diamonds immoral? How about gold? How about cotton? I can prove that all these things can be so immoral . First of all, some diamonds are so called blood diamonds. They are also called conflict diamonds, which is more palatable. Blood diamonds are diamonds that where mined in war zones and are given that distinction to moralize them. "Blood diamonds" is meant to make you feel guilty about diamonds.

Gold has also a very bad history. Gold has been implicated in many wars, in genocide, and crime. Thousands of prospectors have been killed for the gold that you may be wearing. Gold is recycled over and over again, so the history of your bling cannot be certified innocent and moral. This leaves the question of cotton. Surely cotton is all innocent. Cotton is cheap and in the opinion of many too cheap. Cotton used to be harvest by slaves. It may no longer be harvested by slaves but the cotton plant is very thirty. Cotton of the Caspian Sea is said to require so much water that it has serious depleted the water of that famous sea.

So is wearing fur immoral? No. Is wearing leather shoes immoral? No. Fur and leather are two of the same thing. They come from the backs of animals. Shoes, purses, belts, jackets, gloves, and couches can all be made from leather. Are they immoral? No.

Why would wearing fur be immoral? Because the mink did not give it's consent. At least not in the language we expect. Did the cow give it's consent regarding it's hide. How about it's meat or milk?

Does the indigo plant give it's consent. Did it ask to be planted and then harvest? Did it aspire to become jeans of you? The indigo plant is even more innocent than the cute little rabbit. Has the silk worm asked to be enslaved and it's silk used for all that it is used? The commercial silk worm lives it's entire life as a slave. Mind you it is given ideal living conditions and protected from pathogens and parasites.

Wearing furs is not immoral. Humans have achieved enlightenment. They have taken off the shackles of religion and have no more desire to be restricted by such moralizing. Why would humans want to trade in the shackles of religion for the shackles of political correctness?
