Yes, I do believe coaches should take some criticism when their team loses; that's their job. It's a tough job, I know from experience, but it's still their job to produce a winning team. If teams could win without the leadership and instruction from their coach, then why do we need coaches?

Now, an opposing article stated coaches are not responsible for losses when players are out for injury reasons or eligibility problems. OK, injuries I understand, they do happen. However, there are quite a few injuries that can be avoided with proper training and conditioning. I will admit injuries do play a major role when it comes to the win/loss column. However, I still believe a coach should be able to adjust. Eligibility problems, on the other hand, are the coaches fault.

Player eligibilty problems rest mainly on the coaches shoulders. Coaches need to be involved in every aspect of their players lives, well, most aspects. If my star shortstop is failing a class, it is my responsibility to make sure he gets a tudor or studies harder. I'm not saying the coach needs to be a tyrant, but he needs to look out for the well being of the player as well as the team. A coaches job is not only to win, but to develop young men; whether it be through sports or an education.

Criticism towards coaches is just part of the position. It happens to a high school coach when his team is losing all the way up to a professional coach. Why do you think the coach gets fired after a losing season and not all of his players. The coach is the leader; if he can't lead, chose another line of work.
