The Evil Wicked costume factory!
I would have to say as a child I had many fun nights through the years on Halloween, but none of them could compare to the fun I had as a mother making costumes for my children and seeing them so excited to go out.
Months before Halloween I would be planning their costumes, gathering ideas off the media or the latest in the news or perhaps some odd scary thing my children themselves would think of. I would then start shopping at all the thrift stores to make their costumes complete, all the while planning in my head one way or another to make it perfect!
This one particular year I would have to say in my memory everything was perfect, we as a whole family participated. My 10 year old son wanted to be "Elvis." Perfect I thought so off to the fabric store to buy some white double knit fabric and some diamond studs.
I made a replica of the old "Elvis in Vegas" costume with white wide leg bell bottoms, large collar that opened down his chest, all studded with diamonds all around the collar and front of his shirt and on the bottom of his bell bottom pants. My husband was a weight lifter so I used his weight belt and put diamond studs all around spelling out ELVIS. I then found an old black hair piece which was so perfect. I then bought some black hair spray paint and slicked my son's hair back spraying it all black and put the hair piece on top of his head, ratted it all up to make a huge Pompadour. I had some hair left overs from trimming it and glued some long sideburns to his face, and happen to find the perfect Elvis sun glasses, also at the thrift store. I added a few extra diamonds glued them on his glasses and he was the "KING" no doubt!
Next was my daughter Laura who was 8, she wanted to be a "Scary Dead Bride", so off to the thrift stores finding an old wedding dress and altering it to fit her, hot glued some spiders on her dress and used some of the "spider webbing" and draped it all around. Her veil was made of the spider webbing with small black spiders all over, her makeup was made to look as if she were dead, gray face and darkness around the eyes. She was set to go and loved her costume.
Now it was my daughter Natalie's turn she was only 3 years old, and wanted to be the "Little Mermaid" so I made her a long skirt out of a shimmering blueish green fabric and attached a big flipper on the front and the back of her skirt. She also had a long sleeved dancing tight in a fleshy pink, which was perfect for her since she would
