William Shatner should not return in another Star Trek movie, as Captain Kirk or anyone else. He played the part and played it well. But like race horses, when they get old, you give them their rest, you let them retire and enjoy life. You let new blood take over and continue the race. I'm not saying Mr. Shatner needs to retire to the pasture, but not do any more Star Trek movies.
The characters that played in the movies and t.v. have gotten old. some have passed. How do you make the movie with the old cast when some are gone? Do you introduce a new person in their place? And how many times can you make a movie with the old cast and expect to draw people at the box office. I wouldn't go to see the movie. Now, with fresh faces, different names, and new story line, I'm all in, when does it open at a theater near me?
I remember some friends saying, when a new James Bond was coming onto the scene, that no one could play James Bond but Roger Moore. it wouldn't be the same. The movies wont be good, no one would go see them. Weren't they ever so wrong. The character of James Bond 007 lived on and did very well, without Roger Moore. Would pay today, to see a James Bond movie starring Roger Moore now that he is 80? In his get away, he has to wait for the OATS Bus (older adults transportation) to pick him. His driver pulls up to the curb, opens the trunk and takes out a walker. How do you shoot the scenes with the beautiful young girls? I don't want to see 80 year old James Bond in boxers or briefs.
The Enterprise would need and should have new faces, new missions, new story line to make it happen. William Shatner wont make the movie work....any more. He is doing a good job on Boston Legal and his other works. He should be glad to see interest in Star Trek continue without him playing a roll. Wouldn't be more satisfying knowing that something you were a part of in the very beginning, now has a huge following? It would be like a proud father watching a child grow up. That is where Mr. Shatner should be. On the sideline watching that child take off.
