In the name of religion, we these days, see a lot of activities. These activies are of several types. One which is just routine - you know grand parents indulge in them as they are more inclined to the religion when others have little time for them, during their not-so-hay-days. One more type is which influence us to do something due to following the religious practices. Like indulge in social work, help in charities, preach and advise others on various walks of life. And yet another - you must have heard of it - defend your religion in a way that people are left with a scar for life like suicide attacks, simply attack others and be verbally insulting to others as well.
As far as we have seen each religion, none teaches to attack but all preaches to 'come unto me'. Maybe this is the misdoing. Maybe we just look at reaching the peace level - no matter which way. Or should we leave religion aside from our practices and live life amiably? Well, no matter what we do ultimately, like we are protective of our family members, we somewhat become protective of our religion. And thats what guides us to be fiercely defensive about it & its practices.
Also, though is it the inbred thing in us, it is more likely to be an avoidable subject especially at a mixed group where things can turn sensitive as religion is almost like a family to us. Actually our religion is our identity. I eat meat as my religion allows it. And if I do not eat meat due to my religous practices, I am there to defend my religion's stance on this.
My mother thinks that her religion is of utmost, highest level on this earth. And why not? She spends at least three to four hours every day praying and reciting hymns. The remaining time is spent on advising others how they will not fall ill or meet some other misfortune if they too adopt her way of life.
It is another thing that we all are involved in some way or the other in our religion but are we honest enough to admit that it is actually our own feeling and belief that we pour into the religion and expect others to do the same - whether or not it is a part of that religion?
