The definition of a feminist according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary is the theory of equal rights of the sexes and acting on behalf of women's rights. The question is, is the killing of a living being anyone's right?
If the living being were a baby just born, I think we would all agree it would be murder. However, and unborn being tends to cause controversy. Justification for or against abortion can go both ways. Pro-Choice advocates often say that it is a woman's right to choose because it is her body. It is often assumed that Pro-Life advocates believe everyone should do what they say. This however is not always the case.
I am a feminist. I believe women should have equal pay, violence against women needs to stop, and women are an oppressed group. I actually have a long list of feminist beliefs. However, I also feel that abortion is wrong. There are too many people who use abortion as a birth control. Once the egg is fertilized, it is living. I am not going to preach to everyone who will listen that they should not have an abortion, but I know an abortion would not be right for me. I know how much trauma losing an unborn child is, even if you weren't planning the pregnancy. It has been proven that women who have abortions still have trauma and guilt that sometimes has devastating effects.
If you are truly advocating for women's rights, it should not matter if you are pro-life or pro-choice. Feminism is about equal rights for women and gaining respect for women. Feminists should be trying to stop violence against women rather than arguing over abortion. Many people believe there would be less abortions if there were less rapes, so lets stop the rapes! Lets keep women safe and alive so they have the options of making their own decisions regardless of what they choose!
