Heart pumping, mouth dry, peeking from behind the pillow, and loving every moment of it! I have adored horror films for as long as I can remember, and it no wonder with Alfred Hitchcock being THE horror film director of my childhood. My very first horror film was The Birds, by Alfred Hitchcock. I must have been 5 or 6, and I NEVER looked at an innocent little bird quite the same again.
Alfred Hitchcock, in my opinion, was the master of horror and suspense. He brought a whole new flavor to horror, incorporating things we encounter every day of our life. After watching Psycho, it was honestly several years before I was comfortable taking a shower when nobody else was home, now that's horror.
He had a flair for the helpless victim as well, as portrayed in Rear Window and Dial M for Murder. Hitchcock's films always had a twist or two in the plots, but it was his skill catching just the right angle and lighting, just the right sound effects.
I guess you can tell I'm a huge Hitchcock fan, and have spent many an evening glued to the TV, developing yet another phobia, so why put myself through it? For the shear joy of feeling alive, of experiencing the danger from the safety of my living room. These seems to be a little piece of every great horror film that stays with me long after the film has ended, perhaps a line spoken, or a sinister expression, but I always come away wanting more.
