As a teenager, I had a traumatic experience, the sudden loss of a parent, that stirred a sensitivity in me to the Supernatural. I have always enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing. After my real father's death, I became aware of animals lurking closer to me than usual during time spent outdoors. In particular, crows seem to flock around me more often.
Some believe crows are messengers, symbolizing a journey or travel is eminent. I didn't know it at that time, but I would develop a fondness for crows over the years and, to this day, I do believe they bring a message with them, if you believe and listen. Now, crows are real, not spirits. But, I can't deny that at the beginning of every "new start" over the years, crows have been present. I am not talking about just flying over head, I am talking about actually flying up close and/or landing nearby seemingly looking on with an unusual interest. One such incident occurred recently while visiting relatives in Florida that led me to believe, though real, crows were sending me a message of hope in a supernatural sense, in their own way.
We had been contemplating a move to Florida for some time, but we were still undecided during the visit. One afternoon, hundreds of crows appeared out in front of our relatives' home, flying back and forth on the warm ocean thermals. Occasionally, one or two would hover just feet from the seventh floor balcony from where we were viewing them. My brother and sister-in-law have never seen so many crows near their place. My wife knows about the connection of crow and my childhood. She asked me if I thought it was a strong, positive sign for the move. One can argue that maybe it was just a fluke with so many numbers of crows suddenly appearing where so few visited on a regular basis. You can decide for yourself. For me, the answer was overwhelming clear. I believe the crows were sending a strong message of good fortune.
My past and present has revealed enough repeated evidence for me to believe in fairies, other Supernatural beings, and apparitions. I don't believe we know enough about things "unseen" to proclaim that nature is unable to send us messengers, whether visible or not. My Wiccan belief has opened my mind to simply honor and respect powers and entities I don't fully understand and see. I believe good planning and positive action need to join "faith" to produce success. So, part of me is grateful for the positive surge of energy and hope those crows brought to my senses that day in Florida.
