In my humble opinion, NO, a second marriage can definitely not work.
I was married at an early age...22 years old.
I married my childhood sweetheart. The girl I gave my virginity to.
We had 3 children in 6 years and we were very happy...until she wanted to experience something other than motherhood.
She was young and hadn't experienced what others her age had. You know, parties, night clubbing, etc.
So we had fights and eventually, got divorced.
I was in a fog.
I went out a few months later and tried to get my ex out of my head.
I eventually met a lady that I had no feelings for at all. We had sex, and the next thing I knew, we were engaged to be married in 4 months.
What? What?
The marriage was a disaster from the beginning. We were separated in about three months, and later divorced.
What happened?
Well, I guess sometimes, people wed on the rebound. We get desperate for attention and we reach out for the first thing that comes along. A lot of second marriages are the result of this.
I will date and maybe even live with my next love, but I sincerely doubt that I will wed again.
Marriage is a sacred trust. I realize that stuff happens and not all marriages last 30 or 40 years anymore. Hell, a lot don't even last 1 year. I don't think a second one will fair much better.
