Where to start improving your golf game

Anyone can improve their golf game no matter how good it is right now. Even Tiger Woods still works on his game every day to get better. After all, golf is about the pursuit of impossible perfection.

So, where do you start improving? Simple. You ask yourself what your most glaring weakness is at this time and go work on it.

If you are a beginner, your most glaring weakness could be the inability to make solid contact with the ball. If you are an advanced golfer, your biggest weakness might be the decision making process you use on the course. The point is there is always something you can work on.

The key is to work on one thing at a time. If you are unable to hit solid shots consistently, there is no point in working on your mental approach to the game, because you will be unable to execute your plan anyway.

If you are a beginner, be careful about taking lessons from a club professional. I used to work in the golf business as a professional myself and I found the business to be full of "pros" who really weren't that good at golf.

The playing requirement for golf professionals only demands they can shoot about a 78 on a standard par 72 golf course. Because of this, there are some pros that slip in to the teaching ranks without truly being great players. I'm not saying all pros are inadequate. I am only telling you to be careful about who gives you lessons.

Books are a great place to turn for game improvement. Reading books by the great players such as Ben Hogan or Jack Nicklaus will help with fundamentals and get you off on the right track.

In the end, just ask yourself what your goal is in golf. Some people just want to blast the ball as far as they can and don't think about score. Some really want to score better and score better, now. If you want to improve score quickly, work on your short game. If you want to rip the ball, go to the range and swing away until you figure it out.

Whatever you do, keep practicing and working to make your game better.

Good Luck
