Shopping in Mexico

Cozumel is famous for many things. Divers flock there regularly to explore the crystal blue waters. The picturesque beaches attract throngs of sun worshippers. If shopping is your passion, you may want to forgo the diving and beach lounging. Cozumel is a mother lode of spectacular shops.

You can find everything from fine jewelry to souvenirs and liquor. Most of the stores are concentrated along the main road from the cruise ship terminal. There is no shortage of taxis willing to take you wherever you need to go. The official taxi drop off is at the Forum Shops, which is an excellent starting point for your shopping adventure. This mall houses Diamonds International, which is the top recommendation for diamond purchases. Watch & Design is found here too. This store is known for carrying high end brands like Philip Stein and Piaget.

Cozumel is home to the best jewelry shopping in the world. You will find fantastic gifts and unique pieces for yourself here. Tanya Moss is a jewelry artist whose works have gained notice in popular fashion magazines. Her signature piece is the sterling silver butterfly pendant. Silver can be found everywhere. The top recommendations for basic silver purchases are The Silver Emporium, and the $10.00 Silver Store. I should warn that not everything here is $10.00. There are a lot of $10.00 items, but the nicer pieces are a bit pricier. I picked up a beautiful bracelet here for around $60.00.

If you don't have much time to shop, I would recommend a trip to Los Cinco Soles. You can find everything here. The store is massive, taking up an entire block. They have silver, housewares, terra cotta, hand blown glass, and the list goes on. They have their own brand of vanilla and over 200 brands of tequila. Viva Mexico is also a good choice for one stop shopping and home of the Mexican Survival Kit, which consists of a bottle of tequila, 2 shot glasses, a maraca, a Mexican hat, a blanket, and a beach bag.

You will have so much fun shopping here that you won't ever want to leave. Cozumel is simply the best shopping destination in the Caribbean. If you are going on a cruise and Cozumel is one of your stops, save your spending money for this fabulous port. I recently went on a cruise and it was the last stop. I did some shopping in Key West, but it was much more expensive than Cozumel. Grand Cayman has some fine shopping, especially if you are in the market for watches. Cozumel is just simply the best for everything under the sun.
