Reasons we play games

According to Webster's Dictionary, game means: A form of play or amusement, The number of points required for winning, A scheme or plan. It seems as if life is a game, and in this time and age you have to play in order to be counted or to win. So play or be played is sometimes the only option. I think most people aren't playing games for the purpose of just playing them, there are reasons. While we should be able to just be ourselves it seems as if we have to alter ourselves just to meet life's expectancies. With that noted, I believe a person's experience as well as their character produce these motives. Dating and relationships seem to exemplify this even further. For example if a person has been hurt in a relationship, to protect themselves from it happening again, that person may initiate some sort of game playing to test another person's true motives. Then there are those who play games for reasons that are selfish and redundant. Like the promiscuous person may shy away from telling a romantic interest of their multiple relationships, just to lure them, for the sake of getting what they want. Every where you look, there is a game to observe and not in just relationships but in matters dealing with society, authorities, the government, etc. Everyone plays a game sometime in their life whether initiated or not. "If you do this, I'll do that," are the typical responses we encounter. Like the game of cards, if you play a jack someone will play a spade just to win. So reasons we play games is very obvious; to win whatever it is we want. Games are played in my opinion for two reasons, to deceive another or to get what we want from another. Now this does not always mean playing games are wrong, sometimes they're necessary. It's the motive that makes the game right or wrong.
