Global warming; is it man made. Is it a natural and cyclical phenomonom?
Mr Al Gore claims that the debate is over. That the proof is in and global warming is indeed anthropogenic.
There is a large contingency of scientists that align with Mr Gore but, there is also a large contingency of scientists who oppose Mr Gore's "truths".
Most of us writing here do not have the formal education and first hand research experience to formulate an informed opinion. We can only rely on actual scientists for any necessary input and since, as stated above, many fall on both sides of the issue what we accept as truth is mostly dictated by our own biases.
Instead of demeaning and demonetizing one another we need to have a debate. We need to have the most prominent scientists from both sides of this contentious issue sit down in a public forum and put forth all of the evidence, pure scientific evidence for their position.
Once we have stopped attacking each other we should then not feel so pressured to maintain our positions for fear of appearing foolish or uninformed.
Our political system has denigrated into the mud-slinging and ad hominem attacks and all that comes out of that activity is a further divided body, each entrenched in their own ideology, unwilling to make any kind of effort to find a middle ground.
There is much to learn by listening to all sides of an issue but I, like many others, stop listening when derision enters the discussion. Because we are a highly intelligent lot, we certainly should be able to come to an acceptable consensus and once this happens Heaven and Earth will be moved to accomplish our goals.
