Guide to a romantic adventure in Telluride, Colorado

Guide to a romantic adventure in Telluride, Colorado -

Telluride, Colorado is the perfect combination of romance and adventure. You will find this picturesque ski town in the south west corner of Colorado nestled high in the magnificent, breathtaking San Juan Mountains.

When many think of Telluride, the first thing that comes to mind is skiing. However, there are many other features of Telluride that make it a trip for a great romantic getaway year round. The San Juan mountain range is beautiful, whether you're blasting down it on a board or a pair of skis, or simply taking it all in in a romantic gondola ride or fireside at one of Telluride's many romantic restaurants and a sleigh ride afterwards.

Telluride hosts two festivals every year; a film festival every September, and a Bluegrass music festival in June. For a romantic picnic, spend the day on one of Telluride's world class hiking trails or at Colorado's longest (425 feet tall), free falling waterfall. There is horseback riding, for those wishing to ride off into the sunset together or try out one of the many bike trails Telluride has to offer.

The Hotel Telluride and The Inn at Lost Creek are romantic spots that are great during the warmer months, as well as peak season. No romantic get away would be complete without renting one of the two private rooftop hot tubs at The Inn at Lost Creek.

When it is time to switch your focus from a romantic getaways to adventurous skiing Telluride has that covered. Telluride Ski Resort consists of 1700 acres with 92 trails and 17 lifts. The Galloping Goose is their longest run at 4.6 miles long. The Average Annual Snowfall at Telluride is 309 inches.

Telluride Resort offers vacations a chance to feel an Olympian on their very own NASTAR course located adjacent to lower Misty Maiden. They Course opens December 8th for the season where you can race on the course where you'll be nationally ranked against others of your same gender and in your age bracket for the opportunity to win bronze, silver or gold medals. NASTAR is open daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you are looking for even more adventure, Telluride Helitrax offers helicopter skiing in the remote areas of the San Juan range. Enjoy the untracked powder while you either heli-ski or heli-board, in small groups of four heliskiers per guide, on the highest helicopter ski accessed terrain in North America.

Telluride resort hasn't forgotten the Snowshoe and Nordic Skiers, they offer 10 kilometers of groomed, rolling trails that lead Nordic skiers and snowshoers through high alpine forests and miraculous meadows at the top of lift ten. These trails offer magnificent views of Prospect Bowl, Palmyra Peak and the surrounding San Juan Mountains. Advanced skiers and snowshoers can continue outside the boundary of the ski area to Alta Lakes on National Forest trails. A warming teepee, picnic deck and restrooms are open to the public daily.

The Lizard Head Trail begins at Lizard Head Pass and follows the old Denver and Rio Grande Railroad bed. Don't worry the tracks have long since disappeared, but the railroad bed is still there and provides an easy-to-follow 7.5 mile route from the pass back down through Lizard Head Meadows.

This beautiful old mining town has something to offer everyone from the romantic to the adventurous and even the want to be Olympian. With all Telluride has to offer why would you want to spend your vacation anywhere else?
