Are African-Americans really free? The fact that this question is even asked suggests that we are not. The "Constitution" still states that we are only 3/5ths human. This country was built on the backs of slaves and the white man continues to reap the benefits of it. Most of the affluent people in this country have forefathers who owned slaves. Ever heard the term "old money", just what do you think that means? It means slave labor created the wealth and it continues to generate. The only difference between then and now is we are not wearing chains ... physically. But mentally we are still shackled.
The minute we think we are free is the moment we become enslaved again ... mentally. We are living the illusion of freedom. We have been given crumbs like, education, affirmative action, civil rights, the right to vote, access to certain neighborhoods, sitting anywhere on the bus, etc.etc. If you look closely you will see that they are beginning to reverse the progress of these small steps. We are governed by laws and people we know nothing about. We trust what they say when we should find out the truth. Free people don't have to worry about nooses being hung on trees in High Schools, or being drawn and quartered trying to get home from work, or politicians who steal money and elections, or being flooded out of their homes-displaced-then cut off from government assistance, or being arrested while driving down the street, or having their sons and daughters shot and killed by those whose motto is "to protect and serve". Free people don't have to protest injustices perpetrated on her people, lock their doors at night, or buy insurance. Now, you should be able to answer this question honestly ... we are not free and if we don't wake up we never will be.
Our ancestors bought our freedom with their blood, the question now is when are we going to collect ... with interest?
