Family Tree Leaf Rubbing Cards
During the autumn season, the leaves on the trees create a variety of colors that can only be admired this time of year. Many families spend more time inside together decorating their homes for the holidays. When spending time outside, collect some pretty leaves for making an inventive autumn art project.
Make greeting cards decorated with the imprints of the beautiful leaves painting the ground outside. These cards use the age old art of leaf rubbing. The imprint of the leaves provide a background to display a basic family tree. The major veins in the leaf separate from the core vein like branches in a family tree.
Materials Needed :
1. Autumn leaves
2. Construction paper
3. Scissors
4. Glue
5. Crayons
Fold an 8.5 X 11 sheet of construction paper horizontally and cut along the fold. Take each sheet and fold it horizontally to shape your card. Take one of your leaves and lay it on a scrap sheet of paper and put the freshly cut sheet for your card on top of the leaf with the leaf veins pointing up. Take a crayon and rub it over the location of the leaf. Make sure that you push down hard, so that you get every groove and vein in the leaf. Use different colored crayons to get the multi-colored effect that most leaves offer during this season. Then cut out strips of colored paper and form a border around the edges of your cards. Then cut out small pieces of paper to use as markers for the names in your family tree. Position and glue the markers in place. Then Add the names. Add a colorful message inside about how remembering family during this autumn season is very important.
Now you have an inventive card to share with family and friends that is unique to the autumn season!
