It is safe to say that being a teenager today is both wonderful and challenging at the same time. In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, author Sean Covey explains the 7 Habits to teens and provides them with an ultimate teenage success guide.
Now you might say this is just another how-to-book and no book can tell you how to be a teenager but trust be its so much more than that. Covey tells things how they are without preaching . How we live our lives is based on what we strongly believe in. This book will help any teen to build a foundation on values that matter. It offers all the tools you need to be a winner in life.
The main reason why this book is great for every teenager is because it is easy to read. It is one of those books you can open to any chapter and start reading. Get to the good part that interests you the most. Skip what you feel is not for you. In addition to that Covey has filled this book with cartoons, amazing quotes, clever ideas and real life stories from teenagers for all over the world that are dealing with all kinds of issues.
The book helps improve self-image, build and keep lasting friendships, resist peer pressure, achieve goals, get along with parents and much more.
So you might be wondering what the 7 Habits are. Well here it is. Habit 1: Be Proactive, take responsibility for your life. Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind, define your mission and goals in life. Habit 3: Put First Things First, prioritize and do the most important things first. Habit 4: Think Win-Win, have an everyone-can-win attitude. Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood, listen to people sincerely. Habit 6: Synergize, work together to achieve more. Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw, renew yourself regularly. Thru ought the book Covey goes into great detail about these habits and shows how easy it is to master them.
However every book has its unappealing side. The challenging thing is that the concepts in this book can sometimes be hard for teenagers to grasp. For me personally it was very hard to always think Win-Win but the 7 Habits are an ongoing project. Other than that there is nothing bad to be said about this book.
I honestly hope you pick up The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and start reading. It just might make your life a little easier.
And while reading keep in mind what Arun Gandhi said, "Whether to sink in self-pity or swim in the ocean of knowledge is a choice we are called upon to make in life. Here is an excellent guide to make life meaningful."
