A visitor's guide to Frankfurt, Germany

Willkommen! Welcome to Frankfurt, Germany! As you enter this city through the largest airport in Europe be prepared for the experience of a lifetime! From skyscrapers to old European charm you are about to cross the threshold into one of the most interesting cities in the world. For over 1200 years Frankfurt has grown and thrived on the rivers Main and Rhine.

Of course many guide books are filled with information for the average tourist. But having lived in Germany for close to 3 years I would like to share some insider tips that will make your vacation here run smoothly and maximize your time in Frankfurt. I will discuss both helpful information followed by must see sights and activities in Frankfurt.

1) Do not be afraid to travel around the city like the local do! The train system in Germany is one of the most efficient and reasonably priced in the world. The schedules and prices are clearly posted in all train depots. Trains are comfortable and offer bathrooms and room to move around. Purchase your tickets in the stations and be prepared for train staff to check them on board. You can board trains at the airport by following signs to the Bahnhof located on the lowest level.

2) Do talk to the residents. Many Germans speak wonderful English! Locals can fill you in on nightlife, museums, and not to miss sites in beautiful Frankfurt! They know their city and most are eager to spend the time telling you about their favorite areas.

3) Do not miss local markets! These are wonderful ways to spend the mornings! From fresh fruit to local delicacies to antiques you will not find anywhere else, these "farmers markets" are a fantastic way to learn more about the German Culture

4) Pay the extra money for English guided tours. Yes, guide books offer all the history you need to know about certain tourist sights. But nothing can compare to walking the streets of Frankfurt with a tour guide that knows everything about his city! You will be privileged to German hospitality and humor that one cannot just read about.

5) Dine at authentic German restaurants. Yes, it is tempting to dine at familiar restaurants and Germany does offer popular American fast food but you did not travel all the way to Europe for a Big Mac! Stop in any German restaurant and ask the staff for suggestions on what to order.

6) Avoid getting drunk in Public. Germany has some of the best beer in the world. But it is more potent than American beer. A little known fact
