Teaching kids time management

Teaching kids time management is a skill you develop over time.

I can still vividly recall growing up with 'time for everything' from getting up, catching the school bus to and fro school, lunch time, siesta time, home work time, chore time, play time, bath time, dinner time and bed time.

Bringing up children with time allocated for their typical activities is the best wsy to teach a child to manage his time. To succeed at this you must either be a good manager of time yourself or you employ the services of a professional.

Children will naturally adjust to daily schedules that balance work and play. Believe me, no child wants to play all the time, but is/her time must be constructively managed and activities naturally balanced for optimal operation.

Parents (and other influencers) need to be strict about setting times for different activities. While putting your feet down however, you should not be rigid. There are times when priorities change like during holidays, etc. The important thing is for the child to appreciate the importance of be organized and orderly. A good example is when he/she misses the bus. Even if he has to stay home, he should still be made to study as opposed to sleeping or playing computer games all day. Alternatively, he/she could study at the local library.

While priorities will certainly change as the child grows older, the foundation has already been laid and this will guide him/her throughout his/her life.
